Designed to help individuals and families in Maui County with assistance on rental deposit, utility deposit and rent subsidy at a declining schedule and contingent upon the applicant’s circumstances.

The State of Hawai‘i’s Rent Relief and Housing Assistance Program helps Hawai‘i renters and homeowners who have experienced a reduction in income due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and are at risk of eviction or foreclosure. The program provides help with housing payments as well as financial assistance. 

Provides short-term financial assistance with rent and/or utilities security and utility deposits case management services, housing search, Renter’s Education Classes that include Tenant Rights and Responsibilities, Goal Setting, Housekeeping, Budgeting, 6 months follow-up home visit, Program helps to prevent families from becoming homeless. 

The KHAKO Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is a homelessness prevention program that provides direct rental assistance payments, supplemented by counseling and case management for a minimum of six (6) months to a year, to individuals and families moving from emergency shelter or transitional housing programs to permanent housing and Maui residents at risk of becoming homeless due to a temporary lack of financial resources.
